Africa is home to four of five Great Apes, harboring the world's richest primate diversity. Encounters with them in the wild take place in only a handful of remote locations, adding an element of adventure to already extraordinary safaris.

The forest-clad Virunga Mountains that straddle the borders of Rwanda, Uganda, and the DRC are a Mountain Gorilla-trekking haven. Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, lying just a short stretch to the North, is home to Mountain Gorillas and a remarkable number of Chimpanzees. In Western Tanzania's Mahale Mountains, a remote and astoundingly beautiful corner of the continent, unparalleled chimp-trekking, dhow trips on Lake Tanganyika, and sundowners on a sandy white beach can be enjoyed. In Madagascar, a country full of unique landscapes, endemic Lemurs abound. In all safari experiences, plenty of small primates, such as Baboons, bush babies, and Vervets, will be seen.
