The Samburu tribe live north of the equator in the fascinating Country of Northern Kenya. They are closely related to the Maasai tribe, and speak their own dialect of the Maa language.
The Samburu, just like the Maasai, are semi-nomadic people, only the Samburu are still very traditional and have not parted with old customs as compared to the Maasai. They are known for their traditionalist lifestyle, which includes Religious beliefs, Rituals, and Tribal clothing, all largely unchanged by Western influences.
The traditional dress of the Samburu tribe is a striking red cloth, wrapped like a skirt, and a white sash. This is adorned with many colourful beaded earrings, bracelets, anklets and necklaces. Each piece of jewellery worn by the woman, represents the status of the wearer within the tribe.
Meet up with Nilotic people of Central North Kenya and be greeted by singing and dancing from the woman clad in their traditional attire. Dancing is a significant part of the Samburu culture. Their dancing is similar to that of the Maasai people, and with the vibrancy of their singing and the bright colours of their traditional costumes, you will be immersed into the ways of this colourful community.
